Alternative to Democratic and Republican PArty, Ralph NAder [Aug. 14th, 2004|01:42 pm]

[Current Mood |busycrammed with lots of research]
[Current Music |"Little Plastic Castle" - Ani DiFranco]

We need to get enough people to sign the petition and get him on ballot. IT's crucial to save wot's left of our future and start now with a candidate that stands for the people and resembles the U.S. government's original motto "Representation of the people by the people"

Issues that Ralph Nader and his campaign are fighting for

1) Affirmative Action Affirmative Action
"Maintain commitment to affirmative action"
- Should not be based upon race, status or gender
- Argue that affirmative action arrangements support growth of business
- Business should not have influence in lawmaking
- Justice system should intervene more

2) Agricultural

Survey 1--> take the moment to share your opinion about wot's going on now, your voice counts [Aug. 13th, 2004|09:13 pm]

[Current Mood |anxiousanxious]

1) What's your opinion about Kerry's support of Republican Party agendas; cutting government sponsored programs for the working class and the poor especially after saying "When I came to the Senate, I broke with many in my own party to vote for a balanced budget, because I thought it was the right thing to do,"?

2) Do you think people would want to vote come election day? Why or why not?

3)Do people want other options come election day, like Ralph Nader or some other candidate that represents their beliefs besides having to choose from niether the Democratic or Republican Party?

4) What is your view on Ralph Nader?

5) Do you think if enough people show up to protest at the RNC convention, it would convince the public to finally see that we as the working class have enormous power compared to that of the people that run the government themselves?

6)Is it possible for a change in society through revolution? Would you think just reforming is enough for now?

7) What do you think of the U.S. invading into Iraq with corporate plans in mind instead of "rebuilding" the nation?

8) What should we do? If you had the opportunity to tell the government how to fix it's blunders? Please elaborate as much as possible.

This is off the Hunter College branch of ISO..
Today's paper sale was decent, we sold about 10 copies of the socialist worker and received like about 6 people to sign the contact sheet and a few of them signed up for the petition on the Nader sheet.

Not bad but of course we can do better, thought this was a really cool idea to spread the world and get more people involved, sharing ideas and wotnot compared to jsut the regular emails and stuff, on here we can exchange wot works and wot doesn't for the sales and remind members of meetings and events in the local branches.

Peter has me calling up one of the people that signed the contact sheet, her name's Judy Wu...Will call her tomorrow afternoon and see if hse's read up on teh paper yet and see how she's holding up and keep an update on her...Sean has Dianne doing the same thing...(se's also a new member)....the sales can be intimidating of course...b/c people are in a hurry or that they don't want to be stopped in the middle of the sidewalk to be bothered with politics...but if you get them to express their opinion and have them be heard, it's a long shot to get them aboard and help fight with us in teh movment...obvioulsy different strategies go for different people...

....I'm going to type up a survey and see if it'll do any good for people's interest....and see wot happens from there...

There's going to be a Meeting on Saturday at Renaissance H.S. by Jackson Heights...which is on 81st St. and 37th Ave. take the V,G,R, or 7 train to Rooselvelt Ave. and walk a few blocks....not sure wot time though but will find out tomorrow and will post...we're having a group paper sale first though....will update later on..this took me a while to learn how to use the community section on the blog program so bear with me....
